ITW Malawi: Monkey Bay & Community Outreach

At the Monkey Bay clinic in Mangochi, Malawi we offer health education sessions to visiting pregnant women. Here, they learn about the benefits of ultrasound scans during pregnancy before they go for their personal scan.  We talk through the process and address their questions in order to dispel any myths they have heard regarding ultrasound scanning.

Our community outreach clinics ensure women in remote areas are reached and supported.  Without this service they would have to cover long distances across both land and water to reach a clinic for a scan.  The ultrasound outreach clinic has recently helped in the diagnosis of high risk conditions including twin pregnancies and hydrocephalus (a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain).  We share the results of our findings with each of our patients and where needed suggest they go to hospital for further follow up support.
